One of the best returns on your home investment budget money is a kitchen renovation. However, that is not the reason that I would recommend considering a kitchen remodel. A kitchen is the main hub of the home. It is where we cook, where we spend time together, and of course where we grab our snacks. A well designed kitchen can make cooking and entertaining much more enjoyable. It can bring beauty into a rainy, gloomy day, and create a welcoming space for the family to enjoy. This enjoyment is the reason I would recommend considering a kitchen remodel.
Now you have heard some of the positives to a well, designed kitchen. Here is one BIG negative to remodeling a kitchen – as the hub of the home, a kitchen remodel can be one of the most intrusive and inconvenient projects to live through. It is not a short project either. So, the excitement of a beautiful kitchen can quickly turn into “when will you be done with this project?”
When choosing a company to work with to remodel your kitchen, there are four things I would recommend looking for. First, look for one that uses extensive dust protection measures like zip-walls and air scrubbers (here is an example of an air scrubber doing it’s job: BuildClean Dust Control System – YouTubewww.youtube.com › watch) You should want a company that cares about your health and the health of its employees. This make can the project much more bearable to live through.
Secondly, you should want a company that works hard to create and stick to a schedule. Again, as intrusive as a kitchen remodel is, you don’t want it to drag on like The Song That Never Ends 🙂 If proper planning is put into scheduling and material procurement, sticking to a schedule is not only possible, but probable.
Next, look for a company that thrives at design. You may think that I have skipped over design or that maybe I don’t see the importance of design. On the contrary, I am bringing it up in this order, because design (or lack thereof) directly correlates to an on schedule or over schedule project. Proper time spent in the design phase actually leads to less change orders and a better chance to sticking on schedule. One issue some companies deal with is that clients don’t really know what they are getting until finishes are installed. Then, naturally the clients need time to digest what it looks like and often want to make changes. With the technology we have today, there is no reason clients shouldn’t be able to have an accurate vision of what the final product will look like before demo even starts.
Lastly, you should look for a company that excels at communicating. This, in essence, means being able to communicate ideas clearly. This includes verbal, drawings, emails, and pictures to clearly communicate a vision that everyone can understand.
When considering a kitchen remodel project, you should consider working with a company that takes a design first approach, one that cares about containing dust and the overall client experience, one that has a track record of completing projects on schedule, and one that excels at communicating. If you choose a company that excels in all four areas, you will likely have a great experience.
